Scorch Podcast
( 1 Article )
Scorch is a podcast created by Pink Daddy to reflect the San Diego and Southern California Burning Man community... unofficially, of course. Podcasts contain interviews with Burners and participants at local events and functions. Occasionally, a musical guest from the San Diego area hops on Scorch to mix a set or a live performance. There are no rules or guidelines for Scorch, so you never really know what you'll get next...

Hugnation
( 0 Articles )
Hug Nation is a weekly, world-wide, Group Hug - started in 2001. Those pesky oceans keep us from doing the weekly hug physically, so we do it virtually. Thousands of people around the world gather in front of computers to hug themselves and the people around them at a set time. Rather than a shared physical space, it is a shared mental space. Regardless of where you are on Tuesday at 1-pm (PST), you can join the Group Hug. Squeeze yourself in your car or in the supermarket. Hug your spouse or co-worker. Just visualize the thousands worldwide who are joining you at that moment. Think of it as a sort of prayer — a communal expression of compassion. It is a weekly reminder that we are connected and we are all far more similar than we are different. Everyone can use a hug. http://hugnation.com/

Burner Without Borders
( 3 Articles )

Burners Without Borders (BWB) coalesced from a spontaneous, collective instinct to meet gaping needs where existing societal systems were clearly failing... Following the 2005 Burning Man event, several participants headed south into the Hurricane Katrina disaster area to help people rebuild their devastated communities. As the volunteer numbers grew, they focused their initial efforts on rebuilding a destroyed Vietnamese temple in Biloxi, Mississippi. After several months, that job done, they moved to another needy Mississippi community, Pearlington, to continue to work hard -- gifting their time -- to help those in need. Over the course of eight months, BWB volunteers gifted over $1 million dollars worth of reconstruction and debris removal to the residents of Mississippi. Since that time, BWB has emerged as a community led, grassroots group that addresses gaping needs where existing cultural and societal systems are failing.
What does this look like? The important thing is to create collaborations and bring as much creativity and fun to the project as possible. The BWB website is intended to be the mouthpiece for this community's efforts as well as a catalyst for inspiring new ideas. Here are some examples- -Canned Food Drive at your local bar's Happy Hour -Create a work day or weekend in an area in your community that could use some TLC. These gatherings are great ways to organize around long-term projects. -Organize a Costumed Bar Crawl/Trash Pick Up in your town -Get involved with a project your city is already planning and integrate "burner" style participation into it http://www.burnerswithoutborders.org/

Black Rock Solar
( 0 Articles )
Welcome to Black Rock Solar We’re a non-profit with a simple goal: take on climate change, and speed the adoption of renewable energy, by building low or no cost solar power in unlikely places, and teaching community members how they can do the same. Because if we’re going to solve the climate crisis, everyone has to be part of the solution. They can then use all the money they save to support their communities how they best see fit. Think that’s a good idea? Then learn more about how you can help, and how you can do the same in your area. http://www.blackrocksolar.org/

Bluefire Tour '09
( 0 Articles )
For those who don't know, Barbara (Luscious) and I are on a six month tour of the U.S. and bits of Canada, stopping at as many regional burns as we can. We left on May 5, and will be back to Escondido early November.
Here is a link (at long last) to our travel map. We created it in Community Walk, which allows for a great deal of customization. We're still adding photos and notes, but it's mostly done. We'll update it as we hit new places. We're working on a website with videos and text and stuff.
But in the meantime: http://www.communit ywalk.com/ Bluefire2009 Legend: Bluefire is the name of our bus, which is also our home. Blue lines represent travel in the bus Red lines represent travel in the tow car (Thanks to Greg & Sher) You can click on any icon to get details, photos, and leave comments.
